Shown below are the Constructional Details of the Eggbeater Antenna I Built:

I made this antenna using a design by EA4CYQ, it is quite easy to make and will only take a few hours to complete.

All the dimensions are shown on the picture below, but I have used the following materials in place of the ones shown on the picture….

Here’s a list of the Modifications that I did.

Not actual Modifications but alternative materials that I constructed it with

1: Where he used 4mm Electrical copper wire for the Antenna construction itself I used 4mm Diameter brass tube (Obtained from a local, large DIY Outlet), I then soldered the corners together by inserting thick copper wire that fitted perfect into the tube itself.

2: For the Ground planes I used 3mm stainless antenna whips, cut to the correct length (I had these of a friend and fellow Ham of mine M3PYG), these whips were not the tapered type, they were the same size throughout.

3: To mount the Antenna I was lucky enough to have some plastic drainpipe (I think it was about 40mm diameter) This pushed onto the 32mm plastic pipe perfectly.

Ok enough of the blabber and have look at the design itself below, if you need any help then please contact me and I will try to assist

    Hello G4ZTD,

I am 4I1LCP and live in the Philippines. I am currently building eggbeater II antennas for both 2m and 70cm. I would much appreciate if you could assist me on a few questions:

What SWR did you achieve with your EB II antenna using the EA-40CYQ drawing? The reason I am asking is there seems to be a discrepancy on the “632.8mm” dimension. In this article referring to K5OE’s design, the dimension is “624mm” ( http://wb5rmg.somenet.net/k5oe/Eggbeater_2.html ) .

I am using soft drawn copper tubes and working these with a bender tool with a 30mm radius. At the corners of the loop and due to my radius, I would be then shorter by 13mm against a true sharp 90deg bend. Should I lengthen my loop by 13mm x 4? Or should I just build the loop exactly as a 508mm x 632.8mm rectangle? If I compensate for the 13mm, then my rectangular dimensions should be 508mm x 659mm!.

I have difficulty finding the RG62 (93ohm) coax for the phasing/delay line. What do you think will the effects if I use a 75ohm coax? Is there a way around this?

Thank you for your attention and I wish you all the best.

    73,
    Ruel, 4I1LCP
